Let’s Live A Spice Life

July 7th, 2007

Let’s Live A Spice Life
As a song writer you can never be sure where inspiration and need will amalgamate to deliver a new lyric to the portfolio. My recent appointment as Deputy Editor to an Asian Food Magazine required me to come up with a promotion that would get us some positive PR and news exposure. The recent “incredible news” (good grief!) that the “Spice Girls” were about to reform and go on tour inspired an opportunistic train of thought that could not be ignored. Here am I writing about top Chefs and Asian Cuisine – up to my neck in “Spice”, well – it could only mean one thing… I had to conceive and deliver “The Spice Boys” a group of five previously unsuspecting Asian Chefs, minding their own business, who will soon record and release their first single and video appearance on YouTube and beyond. “Let’s Live A Spice Life” has yet to be recorded but when it is you can be sure I will tell you about it right here, so you can check it out and, if nothing else, applaud the spirit of the event. I doubt it will go down as anything Dylanesque but it will be fun and, I hope, should get a few hits from the foody groovers around the World who have been waiting for this very event. Five Turban attired crooners belting out my best effort at a parody lyric in the name of “marketing”. Have I sold out in the name of commercialism and forsaken myself as a serious lyricist? No, not at all. The objective is to have fun and create some attention, that sounds like the life of any musician to me?

New INFO CENRE feature

June 6th, 2007

Unfortunately, due to the amount of dullards who insist on taking the liberty of dumping their unwanted links to smut and questionable substances via our forum, we have decided to remove the facility for now.

This is regretable of course but we hope you will find the replacement “Info Centre” to be an acceptable replacement featuring interesting news and events brought to our attention.

If you would like to submit an item of interest for us to consider for inclusion please feel free to do so through the Email address provided.

Meanwhile, please accept our apologies for the odd pirate entry that may appear in this BLOG. We will remove them as fast as we see them! Whatever you do, do not do business with these people, do not click on the links and do not give them any of your information. They are parasites with nothing worthwhile to offer other than a con or suspect products and services.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

May 9th, 2007

Dear Debutees,

Can you please help us to help others? We need to spread the word around the World about Debutday and the best way to do that is by using the Email network - right?

If you can tell all your friends about this site and what it can do to help them and their career or business we are confident that many will be grateful to you for your gift of information.

To make it easy I have worded a little introduction and the link for you to copy and paste into your Emails, then send to everyone in your address book. We are excited to see just how far we can spread the word around the World and how much new talent we can reach.

Will you help? You will? Thank you so much, we really appreciate it - and so will your friends who also have something to tell the World about. Here’s that piece for you to copy and paste into your Emails - and thank you again - very much! for your help and support.

Music Petition Against Damaging Legislation

May 3rd, 2007

MUSIC PETITION

There is a government move to make it very difficult for musicians to perform live in small venues, or for schools, pubs and charities to raise money for causes through musical events. The new legislation will inhibit the central role music making has in our lives and communities. If you circulate this to your musician (and non-musician!) friends, all each person has to do is go to the government’s petitions website below, give your name, email and address - it takes about 30 seconds. It could make a vital difference to the nurturing of community music making, and enabling young musicians to find their feet in the performing world. The live music/licensing e-petition now has nearly 5,700 signatures. It currently stands at no.19 in the list of 1,702 petitions on the Number 10. This is good, especially in just under a month - and there are five more months in which people can sign. But the petition needs to do much better to make an impression on ministers, and to encourage DCMS to implement music-friendly amendments.

DebutDay.com – Beating Search Engines to Build Business?

February 7th, 2007

If you have a new product or new service to promote, the first step you may take is to set yourself up with a website so that the entire World can find you on the internet, rush to your door and do business with you. Is it really as easy as that? No, of course it isn’t.

Many have spent vast sums on creating an expensive website full of information and photographs that will make them look wonderful – so long as someone actually gets to see it. Mostly, all that results is disappointment. Unless you are a recognised name already or have a high profile product the chance of you appearing in search engine results is almost zero.

So, if you have an entirely new or innovative idea, or operate in a broad based industry, such as a novelist or song writer, how do you get noticed and break into the market?

One way may be to feature yourself on a website dedicated to previewing all such new ideas and bringing them to the attention of both the buying public and industry investors. DebutDay.com could be the easiest and cheapest way to gain attention, create worldwide awareness and draw traffic to your website or, indeed, your front door.

Regardless of what you are offering, Debutday can list your announcement for all the World to see and find interest from people who would otherwise never have known you existed. Co-founders Trevor Krueger and Rob Dejean were businessmen who were well aware of the difficulties involved in promoting a small or new enterprise, so they set about designing a way to provide a low cost level playing field to innovators and creatives all over the World.

Trevor Krueger said; “The World of business is constantly evolving into a major corporation market place, thus squeezing the small man further and further into a corner. But, many individuals and small companies can contribute in a major way towards feeding even the biggest corporations. Their problem is getting the attention of the giants when you are not big enough to reach their ear. DebutDay.com is one way in which such trade can be made possible when embraced by large and small alike. After all how would the Blue Whale survive without the miniscule plankton to nourish it?”

One of the considerable benefits of presenting a new concept on DebutDay.com is the opportunity to connect it into any other facility you may already be using. Links to your website, a Blog, Myspace, YouTube etc are easy to include thus ensuring that you still don’t even need to build a website to receive enquiries or offer expanded information.

In an increasingly competitive World the facility that Debutday offers for everyone to promote themselves could prove invaluable and the difference between the success or failure of any venture.DebutDay.com can be found at http://www.debutday.com/ and you can reach Trevor Krueger or Rob Dejean via Email at: info@debutday.com

Making A Mark On The Muso’s

February 6th, 2007

As you know we are working hard to spread the word about Debutday by rubbing shoulders with some of the other Movers and Shakers on the net. So far we can report that we have made great alliances with the International Songwriters Association, The Muses Muse (An American songwriter site that advises and provides some really great support for budding composers).

CD Baby now feature a link straight to DebutDay and as the biggest internet retailer of independently produced music with over 150,000 members, they are a great ally to have. We thank them all for their belief in DebutDay and the support they are giving us.  Naturally, we are not just looking at music, we are constantly talking to other industries so watch this space for news as it happens.

Don’t forget, if any of you can provide us with links on your own sites or have contacts with big names that would be of use to our campaign - please let us know, we’d be delighted to hear from you with details of who to contact - so don’t be shy!

Just one closing comment I’d like to make. So far, the most gratifying part of running DebutDay is getting to know all the Debutees. There are so many genuinely nice and fascinating people out there and it really is great to get to know you all better.  There can be nothing more gratifying than talking to truly motivated and creative people. You are all really inspiring people and we look forward to getting to know you better.

Keep in touch and leave your comments here too.

Good luck with your projects.

5 Tips and Suggestions to Getting the Best out of DebutDay.

January 5th, 2007

If you have already, or are about to, place a new entry on the DebutDay site make sure you give yourself the best advantage and opportunity to motivate visitors to check out your project. The thumb panels on the home page are there to act as a flag to attract attention. So, it’s no good keeping your flag rolled up and stored in your back pocket, hold it up and wave it about! Make sure that when viewers look down the home page list of entries – yours stands out and draws them in.

Imagine your panel to be the frontage of a street café… in order to sell a cup of coffee the passing clientele has to smell it first. Coffee is a great natural “self promoter” it comes with its own nasal marketing campaign. You must do all you can to generate the same motivation in the minds of your potential customers. Here are just a few ideas to think on.

  1. Make sure your picture is as good as you can make it. It is the first thing people see so it must be clear and fill up the available space as best it can. As they say, “You never get a second chance to make a good first impression”.

  2. Use the right words to explain your product. For example, it doesn’t say “Beef For Sale” outside a butcher shop window, but it may well say “Prime Aberdeen Angus Sirloin” or “Own Recipe Handmade Sausages”. So saying “Oil Painting” or “New Novel” just doesn’t tell anybody much at all. Instead why not try “Highly Collectable Wildlife Portraits” etc, or “Fascinating, Twisting, Turning Espionage Adventure”.

  3. On the 2nd page you have an opportunity to feature more pictures – so use it! Give as much info as you can. Pictures really do speak a thousand words so use them well. Make sure you also give a good explanation as to what you are offering or looking for. Make it clear that you want to sell your item to the public or seek the interest of a corporation to market your product with you or under licence. Don’t be vague about your requirements, people can not be expected to know what you are thinking. So no matter how obvious it is to you, make sure your objectives are obvious to everyone who reads your entry.

  4. Consider featuring a picture of yourself. It makes the connection much more personal and may influence how people feel about your or perceive you to be. This is unbelievable but true…. My recent meeting with publishers, working with me as a songwriter, insisted that I make an effort to lose some weight. When I asked them why, they said that my weight problem was a sign of comfort eating. The fact is I like to nibble chocolate while writing. They felt this suggested I had a low opinion of myself. So, I had to agree to try and lose weight. Whether or not their observation has any foundation at all, and even though my writing is all they should be interested in, they were concerned about my health etc. I got the deal and it won’t kill me to lose the weight so I’m going along with it. You do whatever you have to do – right? Cynically I reckon they just don’t want me to die until I’ve made them, plenty of money!

  5. Finally make sure you make it as easy to contact you as possible giving clear links or instructions. You’d be surprised how many people actually forget how basic and important this is. Finally, if you are accepting payments via PayPal, make sure you include the postage charges in your final cost – and explain you have done that. Then, everyone understands everything and can do business with you.

Hello & Happy New Year 2007!

January 4th, 2007

Hi Everyone,

Welcome to the DebutDay Blog where you have an opportunity to chat with us and your fellow Debutees, ask questions, share news etc all in the name of improving your enterprise.

As you know, we are still in the early stages of launching DebutDay, but already we are realising what a hot site this is going to be. Your input and feedback has already proved very useful and most interesting. We have had some great messages of support and encouragement which naturally makes the whole venture worthwhile.

The Blog is here to help make communication, between you and the team at Debutday, a little easier and more personable. We want to try and create a Worldwide DebutDay “family” of creatives who each share a common goal and objective – to make a real success of their project or career.

Through the Blog we will try and keep you advised of developments, promotional activity, successes, failures (no surely not?) and try and offer help wherever we can to make sure you get the best out of the site.  So, don’t be strangers, get in touch and let us hear what you have to say. DebutDay is here to help you and we are great listeners – so if you have a suggestion… let’s hear it.

We wish you all every success and look forward to helping as many people as we can to make their dreams come true.
